The Truth About Diet Soda !

We talk a lot about ''watching what we eat,'' but if you never gave a thought to what you ate and instead watched only what you drank, you could probably cut 450 calories a day out of your life. (Yes, nearly a pound of fat loss a week!) That's what a study from the University of North Carolina found. Americans today drink about 192 gallons of liquid a year—or about 2 liters a day. To put it into perspective, this is nearly twice as many calories as we did 30 years ago.

When confronted with the growing tide of calories from sweetened beverages, the first response is, “Why not just drink diet soda?” Well, for a few reasons:

Just because diet soda is low in calories doesn't mean it can't lead to weight gain.

It may have only 5 or fewer calories per serving, but emerging research suggests that consuming sugary-tasting beverages--even if they're artificially sweetened--may lead to a high preference for sweetness overall. That means sweeter (and more caloric) cereal, bread, dessert--everything.

Guzzling these drinks all day long forces out the healthy beverages you need.

Diet soda is 100 percent nutrition-free, and again, it's just as important to actively drink the good stuff as it is to avoid that bad stuff. So one diet soda a day is fine, but if you're downing five or six cans, that means you're limiting your intake of healthful beverages, particularly water and tea.

There remain some concerns over aspartame, the low-calorie chemical used to give diet sodas their flavor.

Aspartame is 180 times sweeter than sugar, and some animal research has linked consumption of high amounts of the sweetener to brain tumors and lymphoma in rodents. The FDA maintains that the sweetener is safe, but reported side effects include dizziness, headaches, diarrhea, memory loss, and mood changes. Bottom line: Diet soda does you no good, and it might just be doing you wrong.

The best way to hydrate is by drinking low-calorie, high-nutrient fluids—and avoiding belt-busting beverages like the 20 Unhealthiest Drinks in America.

thanx vineet . i don't believe on copy paste stuff :P
but you can say that I've been studying..:)
well the thing is ..I consider myself a healthy person.. concerned with harmful chemicals and my daily calorie intake... That is why I used to love Diet Coke.. it tastes refreshing and has zero calories! but some people like( i won't tell their name)often told me to stop drinking it.. but they never seem to know why they are advising this... Does that happen to you?:)
So, I have done some research for all of us diet coke lovers… to find out why the delicious zero calorie beverage is harmful...
Let’s start with the obvious, the artificial sweetener.. aspartame. If you have ever googled this word, you will find it is linked to everything that could possibly be wrong with anyone! From Gulf War Syndrome to memory loss to not running a mile under 10 minutes. That was seriously annoyed me... So here is what I have concluded from all of this non-sense. Aspartame decomposes into formaldehyde, methyl alcohol, formic acid, diketopiperazine and other toxins which can cause horrible things to happen to you, anything from headaches and anxiety to seizures and death... So now i gave up the all kind of sodas to see if I feel any healthier.... Any tips out there? I would love to hear your take on diet coke !!

Wow yaar!!! u done ur home work good :)..hey btw if u gone so deep into it...go sm deeper..refine your article n shoot it to NY Times or d likes or collaborate with some doc n get it published in a journal as may b a review or something...anything like dt wil do wonders 4 u :) n u nvr knw unless u try!!!

Nywz comin 2 ur thing. Personally after guzzling regular soda whole life...tking dis corn sugary drink didn't go wel wid me initially bt nw m good wid it :)
N dt advising thing....tho i advise people a lot..only those i care bout...n tho i alwaz know y i m advising...my prob is dt myself i m a very poor follower of dem!! :D
N ur resolution of giving up sodas....guess won't show any positive changes anytime soon...bt yeah if u can avoid d urge 2 take sodas n do widout dem..it's certainly good. Though not sure dt it will b good coz of avoiding aspartame....coz i m radr skeptical of aspartame's criticism!!!
i have come to realize dt 4 any new discovery or invention...dere r alwaz some scientists out dere 2challenge it...take d example of d recent hadron collider!!! just 4 sake of people's atention.
So until dere is definitive stdy backed by immaculate methodology n data...that proves aspartame is as bad as its being said....i personally would refrain from commenting on it.....But my guess is aspartame mst b hving sm dose-effect relation in body...that its K to take certain amount bt if u go beyond certain threshold...its bad kinna thing!!

But anywaz it definitely makes for a great research which will have far reaching implications.

N now i don't know wt d hell i hv writen!!:D posting nywz!!!
